Joseph Guajardo is the lead case manager for A Forever Recovery and also facilitates an all-male Moral Reconation Therapy group. Joseph facilitates other recovery groups within the organization as well. Joseph received his Bachelor of Human Services degree from Baker College of Jackson, Michigan in 2011. Joseph continues his education at Spring Arbor University in the Masters of Counseling program.
Through his own personal recovery Joseph has found success in working with people and helping others. Joseph has experience working with abuse and neglect and the emotionally-impaired. Joseph is grateful for the help he has received from others in the past, and now gives back through teaching others how to live in recovery. Joseph encourages families to educate themselves on addiction and recovery aspects if family members want to feel like they are part of the solution and are not just dealing with the problem.
The greatest thing I’ve learned at A Forever Recovery is that recovery is powerful. I sat with my girlfriend one night and was speaking about the friendship that I had with another person who was in recovery. I said to my girlfriend “you know… he might not be my best friend, but I’ve never had a friend like him before.” Powerful.
I do my best to let people in recovery know that if they do the “dirty work” and continue to work their program they can be a great friend, and that is powerful. I work with great people who are not well, and I have the opportunity to witness the beginning of something special, which is okay with me.
Be strong and Be Well,
Joseph A. Guajardo
